Influence of microstructural notches and stress gradients on the fatigue behavior of additively manufactured HyPo-components

The potential applications and complex geometries of hybrid porous (HyPo) components will result in spatially graded and multiaxial loadings. Thus, the influence of the loading conditions on the fatigue behavior needs to be investigated thoroughly as a prerequisite for the design of HyPo-components. To gain this knowledge, C01 investigates shells made of 17-4 PH by additive manufacturing via DED-LB which are subsequently filled with an AlSi10Mg foam. Hence, these structures are representative for a HyPo-component. These simplified repre-sentatives of HyPo-components are tested in uniaxial push-pull fatigue tests, in rotational bending tests, torsional fatigue tests, and in fatigue tests with push-pull loading superimposed by torsional loads. In these experiments, a special focus is placed on the interaction of the process-induced defects present in HyPo-components with the applied loading state, and how this influences the fatigue strength. Moreover, it will be elaborated how the interface between the additively manufactured steel shell and the AlSi10Mg foam core influences the damage mechanisms, and how the foam core influences the damping properties of the HyPo-component.
